The EC thinks Mahama cannot think for himself, we're protecting his interests - Asiedu Nketiah
Accra, Ghana - September 13, 2024 - The chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has reaffirmed the party's demand for a forensic audit of the voter's register, stating it's essential for a level playing field in the December elections.
Nketia's comments come in response to the Electoral Commission's (EC) request for NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, to engage in discussions to address alleged discrepancies in the provisional voter's register.
However, Nketia has declined the EC's invitation, citing concerns that it would be unfavorable for Mahama to participate.
He emphasized that the party is acting in Mahama's best interest to ensure a transparent election.
The NDC Chairman questioned the EC's request, suggesting they had not thought it through. He maintained that the party will push forward with their plans to guarantee a credible electoral process.
“I am sorry but they are assuming that John Mahama cannot think for himself. The election we are going into is presidential and parliamentary. If there is any interest to be protected there, John Mahama’s interest is greater than all of us because it is his election whose integrity we are working to maintain," he stated.
“So unless EC people assume that President Mahama doesn’t know what works in his interest that is why they will be contemplating appealing to him to talk to those of us who are working to ensure that he will benefit from a transparent election to stop so that they can carry on with their rigging,” he added.
