Sekou Nkrumah applauds Mahama's vow to reset 1st July as Republic Day.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah is the son of Ghana's First president, Dr. Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Son of Ghana's first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah is pleased with NDC flagbearer John Mahama's promise to reestablish July 1 as Republic Day if he wins the forthcoming election.

Dr. Sekou Nkrumah stressed the significance of July 1 in Ghana's history on Joy News' PM Express on Tuesday, saying, "I am glad that John Mahama says when he comes back to power, he is going to change that."

The current administration replaced it with August 4, a statutory holiday known as Founders' Day, which honours Ghana's founders.

 During his tour to the Upper East Region however,  former President Mahama opposed President Akufo-Addo's decision to change the holiday, accusing the administration of seeking to "rewrite history."
