Ken Ofori-Atta's Bid to Escape OSP's Net Fails
Accra, Ghana – 31 July, 2025 – The High Court has dismissed an application filed by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, seeking to quash an arrest warrant issued by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). The court ruled that the application lacked merit, affirming the validity of the OSP's actions.
The OSP has been investigating Ofori-Atta over allegations of procurement irregularities and mismanagement of state funds during his tenure as Finance Minister. Despite repeated invitations and deadlines, Ofori-Atta has failed to appear before the OSP, citing medical treatment abroad.
The High Court's decision was delivered on Thursday, with the presiding judge dismissing Ofori-Atta's application in its entirety. The court imposed a cost of GH¢5,000 on Ofori-Atta. The OSP had declared Ofori-Atta wanted in June and initiated the process to involve international law enforcement through Interpol.
The court's decision paves the way for the OSP to proceed with its investigation and enforcement actions against Ofori-Atta. The OSP's mandate to investigate corruption and corruption-related offenses is unaffected by the court's ruling.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of the OSP to hold public officials accountable for alleged corruption and misconduct. The outcome of this case will be closely watched, given the high-profile nature of the allegations and the individuals involved.
