No first class travel for appointees as I won't tolerate arrogance and pomposity in my Gov't - Mahama

Accra, Ghana - 07 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's President John Mahama has taken a tough stance on government spending, banning first-class travel for all appointees.
The move is part of a broader effort to reduce government expenditure and promote fiscal discipline.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of new ministers at the Jubilee House, President Mahama emphasized that his administration would be guided by humility and respect for the Ghanaian people. He instructed the Chief of Staff to notify all ministers and appointees of the immediate ban on non-essential travel.
To ensure essential travel is undertaken with modesty, President Mahama directed that all such trips must be cleared with the Office of the Chief of Staff. He warned that resources must not be wasted on extravagance or luxury, as they belong to the Ghanaian people who entrusted them to the government.
“The hallmark of this government will be modesty and respect for the Ghanaian people. There will be no room for arrogance and pomposity in this government. The resources that you will be working with belong to the Ghanaian people who put us in office. Those resources are not to be wasted on opulence and extravagance,” he stated.
“I have asked the Chief of Staff to write to all government appointees that I have imposed a ban on non-essential travels forthwith to cut down expenditure. Any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Chief of Staff, and such travels will have to be undertaken with modesty—no first class,” he declared.
