NPP, NDC paraphernalia set ablaze in Democracy Hub anti-Galamsey protest

Accra, Ghana - In a bold move, protesters from the Democracy Hub's Stop Galamsey Now movement took to the streets to express their frustration with the two major political parties in Ghana, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The demonstrators targeted party paraphernalia at the 37 Roundabout in Accra, clearing and burning materials in a symbolic rejection of the parties' inaction on the galamsey crisis.

The galamsey menace has long plagued Ghana's natural resources, and the protesters accuse both parties of failing to address the issue.

As they tore down the paraphernalia, chants of one of the ruling NPP's campaign songs filled the air, underscoring the protesters' disillusionment.

Meanwhile, the police have called for calm, urging the demonstrators to maintain peace and order.

“They are demonstrating their clear intention to be violent. We urge them to stop this,” a post on the X handle of the Ghana Police Service stated.
