NIA registers 18 Million Ghanaians, expands registration to US, Canada

Accra, Ghana - The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that over 18 million Ghanaians have been registered and issued Ghana cards, marking significant progress towards its goal of universal registration.

In an interview with JoyNews on International Identification Day, NIA's Corporate Affairs Officer, Theodie Addo-Dankwah, revealed that the authority is expanding its registration efforts to Ghanaians living in the United States and Canada.

Mrs. Addo-Dankwah expressed confidence in achieving the 2030 target of registering all Ghanaians, including those abroad, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

"We have registered more than 18 million Ghanaians. The NIA's mandate as an institution is to register Ghanaians living in Ghana and abroad. It is also responsible for registering foreign nationals who are resident in the country beyond the period of non-residence. This is currently ongoing," she stated.
