NIA Receives 700,000 Blank Cards to Print Backlogs

Accra, Ghana - 18 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's National Identification Authority (NIA) has taken a significant step towards clearing its backlog of identification cards, following the delivery of 700,000 blank cards to its stores.
The cards, received on February 17, 2025, will be used to print outstanding records, including first-time issuances, card replacements, and updates to personal information, which have been pending since 2023.
In a statement, the NIA noted that it's Acting Executive Secretary initiated weeks-long negotiations with the authority's technical partners to secure the blank cards. This development is expected to bring relief to thousands of Ghanaians waiting for their identification cards.
Meanwhile, the NIA has reminded the public that over 600,000 Ghana Cards, printed as far back as 2018, remain uncollected at regional and district offices.
According to the NIA, efforts are underway to develop an efficient system to distribute these cards to their intended recipients.
''The National Identification Authority (NIA) wishes to announce for the information of the General public that it has on 17th February, 2025 received into stores a total of Seven Hundred Thousand (700000) pieces of blank cards from its Technical Partners after weeks of negotiations initiated by the Ag. Executive Secretary. These blank cards will be used to print the backlog of records (First Issuance, Card Replacement and Update of Personal Information which have been pending since 2023.
