Mahama fires back at Akufo-Addo over Free SHS Policy, tells him to 'stop sleeping'
Ningo Prampram, Ghana - October 17, 2024 - National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has launched a scathing attack on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo regarding the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy. Mahama's rebuke came during an address to supporters in Ningo Prampram on Thursday, where he asserted that he had repeatedly expressed his views on the policy and the galamsey crisis.
Mahama criticized Akufo-Addo for challenging him to clarify his stance on key national issues, including the Free SHS policy, despite his previous statements on the matter.
He suggested that the president was either not listening or deliberately ignoring his positions, which have been well-publicized.
Mahama noted, “When you stop sleeping, you’ll hear clearly my position on Free SHS.”
The NDC flagbearer emphasized that his views on the Free SHS policy and galamsey menace have been made clear on numerous occasions. He highlighted implementation problems with the policy, citing the lack of dedicated funding, parental dissatisfaction with the double-track system, and poor food quality.
“I have made it clear that there are implementation problems with the Free SHS because there is no dedicated source of funding, parents are also not happy with the double track system, also the quality of food the children are being given is not good, and so I have said that the NDC is coming to power and fix these three things.”
