LPG shortage hits Accra, Gas stations run dry

Accra, Ghana -A severe Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) shortage has hit Accra, leaving residents and businesses in a precarious situation.

Gas stations display "No Gas" signs, frustrating consumers seeking essential energy supplies.

According to Gabriel Kumi, Vice President of the LPG Marketers Association, who spoke to Channel One News, the situation is dire, with approximately 60 to 70 percent of gas stations having run out of LPG.

"My checks this morning indicate that about 70% of LPG outlets in the Greater Accra Metropolis have run out of gas. If the situation does not improve, this could rise to about 80% and if the situation is not averted, by close of tomorrow, we expect all LPG stations in Greater Accra to run out of gas,” said a representative of the LPGMA," he stated.

Meanwhile, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) attributed the shortages to logistical challenges with Bulk Oil Distributors (BDCs).

However, marketers remain skeptical, urging swift action to prevent a complete shutdown.
