*URGENT CALL TO ACTION: POLITICAL PARTIES MUST PRIORITIZE CLIMATE CHANGE*
The Institute of Climate and Coastal Environment Protection, (ICCEP Ghana) is a non-governmental network which aims to protect and preserve coastal environment through research, education and community engagement to mitigate climate change in the country.
As the 2024 elections approach, it's alarming to see that many political parties are neglecting to prioritize climate change in their platforms, despite its pressing importance to the country's future.
As the world grapples with the devastating impacts of climate change, we urge government and other political parties to take immediate and decisive action to prioritize this critical issue.
Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it's a harsh reality that demands our attention and collective action. Rising temperatures, intensifying natural disasters, rise of sea level causing tidal wave and unpredictable weather patterns are just the beginning. The consequences of inaction will be catastrophic.
Report from Ghana Hydrological Department indicated that in five years Ghana is likely to lose its coastlines and properties.
We call on our government to:
1. Enact policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, invest in renewable energy, and promote sustainable practices.
2. Provide adequate funding for climate resilience, adaptation, and research initiatives.
3. Take immediate action to build sea defense wall to protect our coastlines from Aflao to Axim.
The time for denial, delay, and instrumentalism is over. We need transformative change, and we need it now.
Together, we can create a sustainable future for all.
