WAEC uncovers mass cheating plots by some institutions ahead of exams
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has stated that some institutions intend to engage in mass cheating during the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to WAEC intelligence, some of these schools' great tactics include charging candidates between GHC200 and GHC500 for "assistance from invigilators."
In a statement signed by John K Kapi, head of public affairs, WAEC has discovered that, "supervisors at some centres are planning to assign teachers to invigilate subjects they teach; some schools have registered persons who are not their bona fide students."
WAEC has warned all school principals, supervisors, and invigilators not to carry out great plots of mass cheating, as those who do will be dealt with.
“The Council will not hesitate to nullify the entries of such candidates and those who manage to sneak in will have their entire results cancelled if found out.
On Monday, August 19, 2024, WAEC began administering practical and theoretical papers for WASSCE candidates.
The 2024 examination is scheduled to conclude on Friday (20 September 2024). The exam had 460,611 candidates, including 212,954 males and 247,657 females from 1,003 schools.
According to WAEC, “this figure is 2.66% higher than the 2023 entry figure of 448,674."
The examination takes place at 1,000 centres across the country.
