Accra, Ghana - 04 Jan, 2025 - The High Court is set to deliver a crucial verdict today in a dispute over four constituencies in Ghana's recent presidential election.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) petitioned the court to compel the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results in the Tema Central, Okaikwei Central, Techiman South, and Ablekuma North constituencies.

The NPP's lawyers argue that the Electoral Commission (EC) has failed to complete the collation of results in these constituencies, sparking concerns about the legitimacy of the electoral process. They claim that the EC's delay in completing the collation process between December 8, 2024, and January 1, 2025, is unreasonable and has denied constituents their right to know the results and winning candidates.

In a surprising twist, the Electoral Commission supported the NPP's application, conceding that the collation processes in the affected constituencies remain incomplete. The EC's representative, Justin Amenuvor, warned that failing to issue an order could set a dangerous precedent, potentially enabling unlawful interference in future elections.

However, lawyers for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates have opposed the application, arguing that the NPP failed to make a formal demand to the EC before seeking a mandamus. They claim that any challenge to the validity of the declarations should be pursued through a petition, not a mandamus.
