Ghana Elections: EC to declare regional results before national tally in december polls
Accra, Ghana - October 18, 2024 - In a bid to enhance transparency in the upcoming December 7 elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a new process for declaring presidential results. Deputy Chairperson Dr. Eric Bossman Asare revealed that regional presidential results from all 16 regions will be declared before the national results are announced.
This decision aims to promote transparency and credibility in the electoral process.
Speaking at the launch of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO) Election Monitoring System, Dr. Bossman Asare reaffirmed the EC's commitment to ensuring a free and fair election.
“For the presidential election, after the polling station, all the results from the polling stations will be taken to the constituency coalition centres. So from the constituency coalition centre, then all the results will now go to the regional coalition centres.
“So what the commission is doing is that we are going to announce presidential results for each region. We will announce presidential results for each region. And the parties are well aware.”
The EC has outlined a comprehensive plan for the 2024 general elections, including a voters' registration exercise, exhibition of the voters' register, and special voting for selected professionals.
The Commission is also working to address potential electoral issues, such as voter verification and ballot printing.
Key Election Dates:
- December 2: Special Voting for security agencies and accredited media practitioners
- December 7: Presidential and parliamentary elections
- Within three days of voting: Declaration of presidential results.
