Galamsey crisis : Government-TUC talks end in deadlock

Accra, Ghana - A high-stakes meeting between Ghana's government and the Trades Union Congress (TUC) over the galamsey crisis has ended without a breakthrough.

The government's ad-hoc committee, chaired by National Security Minister Albert Kan-Dapaah, sought to address environmental damage caused by illegal mining.

The TUC presented six key demands, including:

1. Declare a state of emergency in galamsey-affected areas.
2. Halt all mining in forest reserves.
3. Establish special courts to prosecute offenders.
4. Deploy the military to dismantle mining equipment.

With a nationwide strike threatened by September's end, the government faces mounting pressure to act. The TUC's ultimatum underscores growing frustration with the government's handling of the crisis.

The committee has pledged to present the TUC's demands to the president, but time is running out.

GalamseGhana's galamsey crisis has devastated natural resources and communities, sparking widespread outrage.
