House of Chiefs President denies backing galamsey
Ghana - Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, President of the National House of Chiefs, has categorically denied allegations of supporting illegal mining activities, commonly known as galamsey.
This comes after reports surfaced that he opposed the ban on illegal mining during a speech at the commissioning of the Minerals Commission's district office at Bibiani.
According to a statement issued by Nana Bonya III, the Atipimhene (sub-chief) of Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, on September 24, 2024 and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the publications against Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II are unfounded and false.
The statement clarified that Ogyeahoho Gyebi's address was misinterpreted by some journalists.
“Ogyeahoho has therefore advised journalists to be more professional and ethical in the discharge of their duties.
“As the Fourth Estate of the realm of governance, and partners in the development and progress of the country, you should not allow yourself to be used as conduits for false.
