Four armed miners arrested in Subri forest reserve
Takoradi, Western Region - A joint rapid response operation by the Forestry Commission's Rapid Response team has resulted in the arrest of four armed miners at an illegal mining camp in the Subri Forest Reserve near Benso.
The suspects, identified as Innussah Yussif, Issah Seidu, Shadrack Yowson, and Emmanuel Adawusu, were found mining in a Globally Significant Biodiversity Area, causing severe destruction to the forest.
The team seized five pump action guns, 77 rounds of ammunition, and burnt three excavators. Other items found at the site have been handed over to the Takoradi police for further investigation.
The suspects are believed to have been backed by influential figures, contributing to the degradation of Ghana's forest reserves through illegal mining activities.
The raid is part of a broader effort to combat illegal mining and protect the country's forest reserves.
