Accra, Ghana - 11 March, 2025 - Philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo has embarked on a charitable initiative, donating thousands of Ghanaian cedis to support patients at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

As part of his "Ramadan Donation" initiative, Alhaji Agongo paid the medical bills of 25 patients in the hospital's Child Emergency Unit and donated GHS20,000 to purchase essential medical supplies, including gloves and syringes.

He also pledged to refurbish the unit, including repainting the facility and repairing air conditioning units.

This donation marks the beginning of a month-long initiative, dubbed "Ramadan Donation," which aims to support delivery women in five hospitals across the Greater Accra and Volta regions. Alhaji Agongo plans to pay the medical bills of all delivery women in these hospitals during the month of Ramadan.

“This is a special month, a period Allah wants us to get closer to him, reflect on our lives and share the little we have with our neighbours.

“I have chosen to share that little with women who deliver within this period,” he stated.

As of Friday 07 March, the initiative had already benefited around 45 women, with bills being paid three times a week in the selected hospitals.

Alhaji Agongo's commitment to philanthropy has made a significant impact on the lives of many Ghanaians, and his latest initiative is expected to bring relief to numerous families.

He revealed that his affinity for the Child Emergency Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital stems from his prior involvement in constructing a new block for the unit. Witnessing the unit's congestion and its adverse effects on patients and staff prompted him to take action.

Since then, Alhaji Agongo has continued to provide support to the unit, demonstrating his commitment to its well-being. He urged Ghanaians, particularly business leaders, to adopt a similar spirit of unity and generosity, emphasizing that wealth is futile unless utilized to enhance lives and society.

He also stressed the impermanence of wealth, noting that it is the positive impact we have on others that will endure. He reflected, “In 100 years time, we will all be gone from the face of this earth. Nobody will go with a pesewa but the impact we make in the lives of people will remain forever and it will multiply and impact many more.''

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the Child Emergency Unit, Madam Mary Aseidu, commended Alhaji Agongo for his generosity, emphasizing the need for additional support to ensure accessible healthcare.

She pledged to ensure that the donated funds are used effectively and that the refurbished facility is well-maintained.
