EC suspends officer over unauthorized voter transfers in Pusiga
Dr. Bossman Asare is Deputy Chairperson of Ghana's Electoral Commission in charge of Corporate services

Accra, Ghana - The Electoral Commission (EC) has wrapped up its investigation into allegations of unauthorized voter transfers in the Pusiga Constituency, resulting in the suspension of the EC official responsible for the transfers.

According to Dr. Bossman Asare, EC's Deputy Chairman in charge of Corporate Services, the commission took swift action after detecting the irregular transfers through audit logs in the Voter Management System (VMS).

The logs revealed that photos from voters' ID cards were used for facial verification to complete the transfers, affecting 38 individuals [2).

"The Pusiga incident, the EC issued a statement that the District officer in charge has been suspended and we have finished investigations," he said.

Dr. Asare emphasized that the EC is committed to ensuring the accuracy of the voter register ahead of the upcoming elections.

“We want all parties to be on board. It will be a bad omen on the Commission if we go into the election knowing that there are problems in the register that we can address. It'll be a bad omen to go into election with a defective voters register," he stated on JoyNews' Newsfile.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) had raised concerns about discrepancies in the voter register, particularly reports of transfers involving voters from polling stations in the Tamale South and Sagnerigu constituencies to Pusiga.

However, Dr. Asare assured that all identified mistakes have been addressed.
