Wontumi Presenter granted bail over false news allegations

A popular radio and television presenter in Ghana, Oheneba Nana Asiedu, has been arrested and granted bail for allegedly spreading false information about the upcoming general elections.

In a viral video, Asiedu was seen in the studios of Wontumi FM, encouraging voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate day which is contrary to electoral rules. 

The police described the video as "false and likely to disturb the public peace".

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has condemned the incident, emphasizing the importance of accurate information during elections to preserve peace and stability.

The police have warned the media against spreading unverified information and have reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful election. Asiedu is expected to report to the police periodically as part of his bail conditions.

The incident has sparked concerns about the spread of misinformation during the election period. The police are urging the public to rely on official sources for electoral updates.
