Baffoe-Bonnie Takes Over as Acting Chief Justice Amid Torkonoo's Suspension

Accra, Ghana - 22 April, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie as Acting Chief Justice, following the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

A five-member committee has been established to investigate allegations of misconduct against Torkornoo, who was suspended pending the outcome of the probe.

The suspension, which was announced by President John Dramani Mahama on April 22, 2025, stems from three separate petitions filed against her, alleging misconduct and seeking her removal from office.

Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, a seasoned Supreme Court judge, will oversee the judiciary until the investigation is concluded. His appointment is in line with the constitution, which stipulates that the most senior judge shall act as Chief Justice in the absence or incapacitation of the incumbent.
