Bawumia promises to make construction attractive for private sector
The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says his party will leverage the private sector's capabilities to boost infrastructural development in Ghana.
According to him it is part of his plans to inegrate private businesses in the country's infrastructural projects.
The NPP flagbearer made the statement during the unveiling of the party's manifesto on Sunday, ahead of the 2024 elections.
He emphasized the need for private sector participation in the development and management of critical assets, such as children's hostels, housing, and schools.
Dr. Bawumia also addressed the high need for road construction, stating that it has historically imposed a huge strain on the national budget.
Again, he proposes to make it easier and attractive for the private sector to fund, build, manage, and maintain roads through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) concessions.
“In the last eight years, we have been deliberate in empowering Ghanaian contractors to undertake many major infrastructural projects that would otherwise have gone to foreign contractors,” Bawumia stated.
"The demand for roads construction is massive, and this has historically placed a huge burden on the budget. I will make it more attractive for the private sector to also finance construction management and maintenance of roads through PPP concessions," he added.
