Bagbin adjourns parliament indefinitely over quorum crisis
Accra, Ghana - Ocyober 22, 2024 - Speaker Alban Bagbin announced the indefinite adjournment of parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, October 22, citing lack of quorum and uncertainty over the chamber's composition.
The move follows a tumultuous day of heated disputes between NPP and NDC MPs over which caucus holds the Majority.
The Supreme Court directed Bagbin to stay his earlier ruling declaring four parliamentary seats vacant, but details remain unclear.
The affected seats are Agona West, Fomena, Suhum, and Amenfi Central. NPP MPs vacated the Chamber, prompting Bagbin to adjourn due to lack of quorum.
Parliament's immediate future remains uncertain as both parties await clarity on the substantive case before the Supreme Court.
