Accra, Ghana - October 8, 2024 - Proponents of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, commonly known as the anti-gay bill, took to the streets today, Tuesday, October 8, to express frustration over the delays in the bill's final approval.

The protest, led by Samuel Nartey George, Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, aims to draw attention to the long wait for the bill's implementation.

The bill, passed by Parliament on February 28, 2024, has stalled due to a Supreme Court ruling on July 17, 2024, deferring judgments on cases challenging the bill until all associated legal matters are addressed. This postponement has left supporters increasingly anxious.

Key Concerns:

- Delays undermine legislative process: Further delays are seen as undermining the legislative process, according to Samuel Nartey George.
- Chief Justice's authority: The Chief Justice of Ghana has the authority to expedite the case if deemed necessary, George pointed out.
- Upholding national values: Resolving the issue promptly is crucial to upholding Ghana's values and principles.

In an interview with Citi FM, George emphasized that the bill represents the will of the Ghanaian people, as reflected in its parliamentary approval. He called for the judiciary to prioritize the matter, allowing the bill to be signed into law.
