80% of DACF Funds Will Go Directly to Regions, Poor Performance Won't Be Tolerated - Mahama Warns MMDCEs

Bono East Region, Ghana - 30 May, 2025 -
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that the government is poised to release the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), following criticism from the Minority Caucus. The Minority had accused the Finance Minister of deliberately withholding funds from key government institutions despite the availability of resources, nearly six months into the new administration.
Speaking during his Thank-You tour of the Bono East Region, President Mahama emphasized the importance of effective utilization of the allocated resources by Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).
He warned that failure to do so could result in their dismissal, stating, "The Minister of Finance is about to release the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund... MMDCEs, you have no excuse."
According to President Mahama, 80% of the funds will be disbursed directly to the regions, allowing them to decide how to utilize the resources.
He also mentioned that guidelines, approved at the last Cabinet meeting, will be sent to MMDCEs to serve as their Key Performance Indicators.
According to Mahama, the government will assess their performance annually, and based on that, decisions will be made regarding their tenure.
“The Minister of Finance is about to release the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund. As I said, 80% of the money is going directly to the regions for you to decide how to use it. So, MMDCEs, you have no excuse.
This development comes as President Mahama continues his regional tour, with the Bono Region slated for visitation on the same day. The release of the DACF is expected to provide much-needed support to district assemblies, enabling them to implement projects and programs that benefit their constituents.
