Ministry of Interior Declares June 6 Public Holiday to Mark Eid-ul-Adha

Accra, Ghana - 30 May, 2025 - The Ministry of Interior has declared Friday, June 6, 2025, a statutory public holiday in Ghana to commemorate Eid-ul-Adha, a significant Islamic festival.
In a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak on May 29, the ministry called on the public to observe the day as a holiday nationwide.
Eid-ul-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, honors the unwavering faith of Prophet Ibrahim, who demonstrated his willingness to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God's command. The festival coincides with the end of Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, a fundamental pillar of Islam. It falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.
During Eid-ul-Adha, Muslims typically gather for special prayers, perform animal sacrifices, and engage in charitable acts. The festival is an occasion for Muslims to come together with family and friends, sharing blessings and supporting those in need. Also known as the "Greater Eid," Eid-ul-Adha is a time for celebration, reflection, and generosity.
