My Appointments will be based on merit, competence, regional balance and gender equity - Mahama

Ho, Volta Region, Ghana - 24 Jan, 2025 -Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has moved to address concerns over the representation of the Volta Region in his government, pledging to prioritize the region's talents and contributions in future appointments.

The President's assurance comes after unrest in the region, sparked by the perceived exclusion of a Ho Central indigene from recent ministerial appointments. During a visit to Ho as part of his "Thank You" tour, President Mahama reiterated his commitment to regional balance and inclusivity.

He emphasized that appointments would be based on merit, competence, and regional balance, and expressed his confidence in the Volta Region's potential to drive Ghana's development.

“I also recognize the anticipation of appointments from this region, and as has been said, so far so good. Let me assure you that your contributions and talents have not been overlooked,” he said.

''Appointments will be guided by principles of merit, competence, regional balance, gender equity, and availability to serve.”

“I do not doubt that the people of the Volta Region possess the resources and will to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of our nation. The Volta Region has long been a victim of unfulfilled promises, but as I said, I assure you that this era of neglect will end under this administration,” he added.
