Young Mother Dies in Saudi Arabia After Falling From 4th Floor While Fleeing Deportation
A heartbreaking incident has occurred in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where a young mother, Namatovu Halima, died after falling from the fourth floor of an apartment building while attempting to escape immigration officials. Halima, a domestic worker from Uganda, had been living in Saudi Arabia for five years and had built a reputation for helping fellow immigrants return home safely.
According to sources, Halima's visa had expired, and she was detained in a deportation facility awaiting repatriation. In a desperate bid to avoid deportation, she attempted to flee from the authorities, but fatally injured her head during the fall. Her last words were a poignant plea to her son to pray for her success in escaping deportation.
Halima was remembered by colleagues as a caring and good person who had helped many immigrants return home safely. Despite her own struggles, she had built a life in Saudi Arabia, working hard to support her family back home. She had built at least three houses in Uganda and was fondly referred to as "Maama Kiyumba" by her community.
The circumstances surrounding Halima's death are still shrouded in mystery, with some social media users expressing suspicion that she may have been pushed. Her family is now appealing for support to have her body repatriated to Uganda for burial.
In a separate incident, a Kenyan woman, Alice Moraa, died while working in Saudi Arabia after collapsing while chopping onions in the kitchen. Moraa had previously complained of frequent dizziness and failed to receive medical attention after falling unconscious.
These incidents raise concerns about the safety and well-being of migrant workers in Saudi Arabia. Human rights organizations have long highlighted the risks faced by migrant workers in the country, including exploitation, abuse, and poor working conditions.
Halima's death serves as a stark reminder of the desperate measures people may take to avoid deportation. It highlights the need for governments and authorities to ensure that migrant workers are treated with dignity and respect, and that their rights are protected.
