What Progress? Afenyo-Markin Challenges Govt on Youth Unemployment
Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin

Central Region,Ghana – September 20,2025 - The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has raised concerns about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's performance since assuming power, questioning their ability to deliver on manifesto promises.

Speaking at the Young Commons Forum at the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) summit, Afenyo-Markin emphasized that the government's focus on persecuting political opponents rather than fulfilling promises to Ghanaians is alarming.

Afenyo-Markin specifically highlighted the issue of youth unemployment, asking whether the government has made any significant strides in addressing this pressing concern. "All too soon, December will come, and one year will be gone, and the question is what have they to show. The youth unemployment situation - have they added to the unemployment or have they taken more of the youth into employment?" he queried.

The Minority Leader urged Ghanaians to focus on questioning governmental policies rather than engaging in social media abuse. "Let's not spend our time on social media abusing one another. Let us spend the time to question policies and show patriotism and be determined to make Ghana a better place," Afenyo-Markin stated.

This is not the first time Afenyo-Markin has criticized the NDC government. Previously, he has accused the government of hypocrisy over the suspension of the "Dumsor Levy," arguing that the government should scrap the tax entirely rather than just suspending it.

He has also described the NDC as a failure, citing their inability to deliver on promises and their tendency to rebrand NPP achievements as their own.
