US Embassy Warns Ghanaians Against Visa Fraud, Fixers

Accra, Ghana - 18 June, 2025 - The United States Embassy in Ghana has issued a warning to individuals seeking to travel to the US, cautioning against visa fraud and the use of unauthorized agents or "fixers" to facilitate the application process.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the embassy emphasized that visa applications can be submitted directly through its official website without incurring additional costs. The embassy warned that promises of guaranteed visas are often deceptive and intended to defraud applicants.

The US Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to welcoming Ghanaians who wish to study, invest, or engage in business in the United States, but stressed the importance of following proper procedures to avoid serious penalties, including those related to overstaying visas or working without authorization.

Applicants are advised to be cautious and submit their applications directly through the official website to avoid falling victim to scams.

“We wish to emphasize that you do not need the services of a fixer or visa consultant to apply for a get a U.S. visa! This can be done directly through our official website at no extra cost. It is important to note that no fixer or consultant can guarantee a visa. Any such promises are deceptive and intended to defraud you.” the Embassy wrote on its official Facebook page.
