Accra, Ghana - 14 March, 2025 - The University of Ghana has taken decisive action against staff and students found guilty of various offenses, including plagiarism, sexual misconduct, and drug possession.

In a bid to uphold academic integrity and ethical standards, the university's management has publicly disclosed the names of 17 individuals sanctioned for misconduct.

The move follows a recent decision by the Academic Board.

Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah, a lecturer in the Sociology Department, was sanctioned by the university's authorities following a thorough investigation into allegations of misconduct.

According to a notice signed by the University's Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Dr. Appiah violated Section 1.1(A) of the Sexual Harassment and Misconduct Policy and Section 10.0 of the Code of Conduct for Academic Staff.

As part of his punishment, Dr. Appiah is required to issue a formal written apology to the complainant and will be barred from applying for promotion for one year after serving his suspension.

He must also undergo training on sexual harassment and misconduct facilitated by the university's Anti-Sexual Harassment Committee.

The university's decision to sanction Dr. Appiah is part of a broader effort to uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and misconduct.

The institution has also penalized 16 students for various forms of misconduct, including plagiarism, falsification of documents, and drug possession.

The university's management has urged all members of its community to familiarize themselves with institutional regulations and conduct themselves appropriately.
