Otoase, Eastern Region, Ghana - Nov 11, 2024 -  The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised alarm over an alleged plot by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to manipulate the 2024 elections.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections for the NDC, made the accusation while addressing community members in Otoase within the Ayensuano Constituency during his five-day tour of the Eastern Region.

According to Dr. Omane Boamah, the NPP plans to rig the special voting scheduled for December 2, 2024, which involves security agencies, journalists, and EC officials.

He urged Ghanaians to remain vigilant and assist security personnel in safeguarding the electoral process, emphasizing the collective effort required to protect the nation's democracy.

The NDC has committed to ensuring a transparent election process and will work closely with security agencies to monitor the elections thoroughly. Dr. Omane Boamah also assured the youth that the NDC, under John Dramani Mahama's leadership, would abolish the E-levy, Emission Tax, Betting Tax, and COVID tax, shifting the country's focus from taxation to production.

“Elephant has made up their minds that, they will rig the votes in the upcoming election, they have decided to commence with the rigging of the election on December 2. The special voting is made up of the security agencies, journalists and EC officials.

“The Elephant has made up their minds to take advantage of the period to rig the vote. So we plead for the people of the Ayensuano constituency, as I have been saying throughout the campaign process. Special elections can be rigged so be vigilant.

“The security forces have decided not to allow the NPP to rig the votes in the upcoming election. let’s join forces with the security forces to prevent them from cheating on December 7,'' he added.

This accusation is not isolated, as similar concerns have been raised by other NDC officials. For instance, the Awutu Senya West Constituency branch of the NDC alleged that it uncovered detailed plans by the NPP to rig the parliamentary elections.

Additionally, the NDC chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah expressed worries about the NPP's control over the National House of Chiefs elections, claiming that the ruling party had rigged the results by paying bribes.

The NDC has stressed the need for the Electoral Commission to implement rigorous measures to reduce incidents of violence during the upcoming general elections. With tensions rising ahead of the polls, the call for transparency and fairness remains paramount.
