Speaker Bagbin Revokes Suspension of Four Ghanaian Lawmakers
Accra, Ghana - 04 Feb, 2025 - Ghana's Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has revoked the suspension of four Members of Parliament (MPs) who were barred from the legislative chamber following a brawl during a vetting session on January 30, 2025.
The clash between Minority and Majority MPs had sparked tensions in Parliament, prompting the Speaker to suspend the four lawmakers. However, after a review of the incident and interventions by the Majority and Minority leaders, Speaker Bagbin has lifted the suspension.
''So I have lifted the suspension order. I do so instantly and takes effect immediately. The affected Hon. Members are permitted now to enter the precincts of the house. I must say they actually complied with the orders,'' he stated on the floor of Parliament on Feb 4, 2025.
The affected MPs - Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, and Alhassan Tampuli - are now free to resume their parliamentary duties.
