Accra, Ghana – 6 August, 2025 – A high-profile seizure of a 2019 Lamborghini Urus has rocked Ghana's music scene, with popular dancehall artist Shatta Wale at the center. The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) confiscated the luxury vehicle from Shatta Wale's residence in Accra's Trassaco Valley Phase 1 neighborhood.

The seizure is part of a joint investigation between EOCO and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into financial crimes committed by Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian national currently serving an 86-month prison sentence in the US. Amuah was sentenced in October 2023 after pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering, with a court-ordered restitution of $4.7 million to his victims.

According to US court records, Amuah and his co-conspirators impersonated vendors to defraud nearly 70 public and private organizations across the United States, tricking entities into wiring money into bank accounts controlled by the group. One notable incident involved convincing officials from the city of Lexington to wire housing assistance funds meant for a local non-profit into a fraudulent bank account.

Shatta Wale reportedly pleaded with EOCO officials not to publicize the seizure, citing concerns about the potential damage to his brand and public image. He was allowed to voluntarily surrender the vehicle, which is now in EOCO's custody.

The seizure is part of wider efforts between Ghanaian and US authorities to trace assets linked to cross-border financial crimes. EOCO has named Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of the National Signals Bureau as persons of interest in the ongoing investigation. Both individuals are expected to be invited for questioning to assist with further inquiries.

The FBI and US Department of Justice are expected to request the repatriation of the vehicle through a Mutual Legal Assistance process to satisfy the restitution order. As investigations continue, EOCO may share its final findings with US authorities as part of ongoing international cooperation.
