Road Minister Holds Crunch Talks with Contractors Over Gov't Debt, Road Toll and Funding

Accra, Ghana - 21 Feb, 2025 - The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, has assured the Ghana Chamber of Construction Industry (GhCCI) of the government's commitment to addressing the challenges facing the construction sector.
During a courtesy call by the GhCCI earlier today, Hon. Agbodza acknowledged the industry's concerns, including government indebtedness to contractors, the reintroduction of road tolls, and the implementation of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
The Minister outlined plans to streamline payment processes and improve road project supervision to ensure quality and value for money. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and industry players to drive sustainable growth in the sector.
The meeting is seen as a positive step towards resolving the long-standing issues affecting the construction industry in Ghana. The GhCCI has been advocating for prompt payment to contractors and a clear payment plan from the government.
