Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi Released by NIB After Questioning

Accra, Ghana - 23 Feb, 2025 - Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi has been freed by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) after being held for questioning.
The former Public Procurement Authority Board Chairman was detained in connection with a probe into financial dealings during his tenure at the Ghana Infrastructural Investment Fund (GIIF).
Details of the investigation are emerging, with sources indicating that it centers on certain financial approvals made during Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi's leadership at GIIF. His lawyer, Ken Kuranchie, confirmed the release, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the detention.
According to him, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi was taken from his home on Sunday morning by a group of men in three pickup trucks. They informed him that his presence was required at the NIB, and he voluntarily followed them.
The NIB's investigation into Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi's financial dealings has sparked interest, with many awaiting further developments. For now, Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi is free after his brief detention.
