President Mahama Rings Changes in Military Leadership, Appoints New Acting Chiefs

Accra, Ghana - 17 March, 2025 - President John Mahama has shaken up the top brass of the Ghana Armed Forces, appointing new Acting Service Chiefs in a move aimed at bolstering the country's defense capabilities

The changes, set to take effect on March 24, 2025, are part of a broader effort to restructure the military's leadership and ensure continued excellence in operations.

 

The newly appointed Acting Service Chiefs include Brigadier General William Agyapong as Acting Chief of the Defence Staff, Brigadier General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu as Acting Chief of Army Staff, Commodore Godwin Livinus Bessing as Acting Chief of Naval Staff, Air Commodore Eric Agyen-Frempong as Acting Chief of Air Staff, and Brigadier General Glover Ashong Annan as Acting Chief of Staff.

These appointments are subject to consultation with the Council of State, as required by law.

President Mahama in a statement signed by Government Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Service Chiefs, praising their dedicated service to the nation and assuring them that their expertise and experience will continue to be valued in supporting national development.
