Plan to celebrate your victory and also plan for your defeat - IGP Dampare to Political Parties
Accra, Ghana - Nov 22, 2024 - Ghana's Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has cautioned political parties and independent candidates to manage their expectations and be realistic about their chances in the upcoming 2024 elections.
This call to action was made during a police briefing with representatives from all political parties on November 21, where the force's preparations for the elections were outlined.
Dr. Dampare emphasized the need for peace and stability during the elections, stressing that the police would handle any electoral violence with professionalism.
He urged parties to be realistic about their chances, noting that only one presidential candidate and 276 parliamentary candidates would ultimately emerge victorious.
“With the 13 or the 12, whichever it is, there is one clear thing, only one will win, the rest will not win. In the same way, the 801 vying for the position of 276 seats, only and I repeat only 276 will win, the rest will not win. We need to come to this realisation and therefore measure our expectations.
“If I want to be very blunt, I will say that as you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to celebrate your defeat or endure your defeat. So at the end of the day, Ghana and only Ghanaians will win in this election as we have said”, he stated.
