Accra, Ghana - 28 March, 2025 - Ghana's Parliament is poised to pass a landmark bill regulating the country's lucrative gold industry, ahead of the Easter recess.

The Ghana Gold Board Bill 2025 aims to boost transparency, improve traceability, and increase foreign exchange earnings from gold exports.

The proposed legislation establishes the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), a regulatory body tasked with overseeing the buying, selling, and export of gold in Ghana.

According to Sammy Gyamfi, Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), the bill has undergone extensive consultations and amendments to ensure its effectiveness.

“We have made more than 40 amendments to the bill and relayed it in Parliament and the old one had been withdrawn. From the indications that I am getting, the bill will be passed before Parliament breaks for the Easter,'' he stated during an interview with Joy News.

“The Finance Committee of Parliament has done a good job and we need to commend them.''

The legislation is seen as a critical step towards formalizing Ghana's gold industry and maximizing its economic benefits.
