NPP Slams Sammy Gyamfi Over 'Opulence' Lifestyle

Accra, Ghana - 13 May, 2025 -
A recent video circulating online has ignited a heated debate over the lifestyle of Sammy Gyamfi, Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board. The video, which shows Gyamfi handing out US dollar bills to self-styled evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, has drawn criticism from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to the NPP, Gyamfi's actions reflect a troubling level of extravagance for a government appointee, particularly given his role in helping to maintain a steady currency.
NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye addressed a press conference, questioning the propriety of Gyamfi's behavior and highlighting the apparent disconnect between his actions and the expectations of his office.
Boakye pointed out that Gyamfi was seen driving a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography valued at $350,000 on the day the video was recorded, further fueling concerns about his lifestyle. The NPP argues that Gyamfi's use of US dollars in his daily transactions demonstrates a lack of confidence in the Ghanaian cedi, which is inconsistent with his role at the Gold Board.
“It may have escaped many observers of this unfortunate incident, but not only was Mr Sammy Gyamfi giving out United States dollars without restraint, but he also engaged in painted opulence just after 120 days in government.
“On the day in question, Mr Gyamfi was being driven in a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography valued at $350,000,” he said.
“It is palpable unethical and a complete betrayal of the public trust for Mr Sammy Gyamfi to receive all these benefits on the back of helping maintain a steady currency, yet failed to have any iota of confidence in the Ghana cedi to the extent of using the US Dollars of daily use,” he stated.
