NPP Presidential Race: Kwabena Agyepong Files Nomination Forms to Kick Off Bid

 Accra,Ghana,August 26,2025 - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer race has officially kicked off, with former General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong becoming the first aspirant to file his nomination forms. This significant development marks the beginning of a competitive journey to select the party's presidential candidate for the 2028 general elections.

Kwabena Agyepong's decision to contest the flagbearer position comes with a promise of clean leadership, principled service, and party renewal. He emphasized the need for innovative solutions to Ghana's challenges and called on party delegates to reject the influence of money in internal politics. According to his handlers ,Agyepong's campaign theme, "Service, Sacrifice, and Selflessness," reflects his commitment to restoring the party's founding values.

While Agyepong has taken the lead, other prominent figures are expected to file their nominations soon. These include Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia ,Former Vice President and 2024 flagbearer ,Kennedy Agyapong ,Former Assin Central MP ,Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum ,Bosomtwe MP and Bryan Acheampong ,Abetifi MP.

Meanwhile ,the NPP has introduced significant reforms to its electoral process, expanding the voter register to include a broader range of stakeholders. These new categories of eligible delegates include,past party executives ,former ministers ,members of arliament ,current and former MPs ,Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs),Tertiary Students Confederacy (TESCON) leaders and external Branch Officials.

The registration period for these additional delegates is expected to close on Friday, September 19, 2025. The party's Presidential Elections Committee has also outlined a detailed timeline for the primaries, with vetting of aspirants scheduled between September 15 and September 22, 2025.
