NPP Must Prove It's Learnt from Past Mistakes - Dr. Bawumia
Accra, Ghana – 19 July, 2025 – The 2024 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has issued a rallying cry to his party members, to genuinely show the lessons learned from recent electoral and governance challenges to the Ghanaian people.
Speaking at the NPP's 2025 National Annual Delegates Conference in Accra, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the party's reorganization should focus on becoming a better tool for delivering good governance, rather than just preparing to win elections.
"We must be consistent in pursuance of our effort to address not just the challenges within but more importantly the challenges that bedevil our motherland," Dr. Bawumia said, addressing national and regional party stakeholders.
Dr. Bawumia acknowledged that the party had reflected deeply on its performance and identified key areas for improvement. He stressed that such introspection must be followed by visible actions, saying, "We have also learned useful lessons in how to improve some things in the future. We must remain resolute and consistent in doing the right things again and in applying the lessons the next time."
The former Vice President emphasized the importance of demonstrating these lessons to the Ghanaian people, stating, "We must ensure that Ghanaians genuinely see the lessons we have learnt and are willing to apply next time round. We shouldn’t be shy about them. It is then that our fellow country men and women will give us another opportunity to serve."
Dr. Bawumia also reflected on the NPP's governance record under the Fourth Republic, acknowledging both triumphs and setbacks under Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. However, he expressed confidence that the party's positive impact would be remembered, saying, "In governance, there are ups and downs. Under President Kufuor and President Akufo-Addo, we have had our share of both. But I believe that our monumental achievements will stand the test of time."
