NDC Minority was tough and power hungry - Afenyo- markin
Accra, Ghana - January 6, 2025 - As the 8th Parliament of Ghana comes to a close, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has described the NDC Minority as a "tough, stubborn, difficult side" that made it nearly impossible to reach agreements.
In a statement delivered in Parliament on Monday, Jan 6, 2025, Afenyo-Markin recalled the intense pressure he faced, with many calling on him to extend an olive branch to the Minority.
Afenyo-Markin maintained that the Minority's stance was driven by their ambition for power.
“Mr Speaker, many did not understand why I was combative on a number of occasions. There were those who didn’t know how the heat was on me and were saying that ‘you are majority leader, reach out.'”
“Mr Speaker, the minority were such a tough, stubborn, difficult side. Mr Speaker, you could never have an agreement with them because they were smelling power and I understand, rightly so,” Afenyo-Markin stated.
“The number of government business I would have loved to complete for political expediency and perhaps for purposes of principle, I did not get the support from the respected colleagues,” he added.
