NDC files fresh writ over Amenfi Central Parliamentary Candidate dispute
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has intensified its legal battle with the Electoral Commission (EC) over the recognition of its parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central.
Following a setback at the Accra High Court, the party has filed a new writ at the Sekondi High Court.
The dispute revolves around the EC's refusal to acknowledge Joana Gyan Cudjoe as the legitimate NDC candidate, despite a May 13, 2024, High Court ruling in Sekondi ordering her recognition.
NDC Challenges Accra High Court Ruling
The Accra High Court dismissed the NDC's injunction application on October 31, 2024, citing pending orders related to the matter. However, the NDC contests this interpretation, arguing the court relied on an outdated injunction.
Party's Reasoning
According to NDC's Deputy Director of Elections, Dr. Tanko Rashid Computer,“We heard the ruling alright but quickly, there was a caveat in the ruling, in the sense that the judge was referring to the old injunction that to him is still pending.
“So quickly, we instructed our lawyers to do the needful, I mean, by drafting a writ, a quick one. And fortunately, we were able to file a fresh one at the Sekondi High Court to vacate that whole injunction. And the Electoral Commission was duly served at their office in Takoradi.”
