Mobile Money Transaction Value Declines to GHC 316bn in February 2025 - BoG

Accra, Ghana - 01 April, 2025 - Ghana's mobile money sector has witnessed a surprising downturn, with transactions valued at GHS316 billion in February 2025, marking a notable decline from the GHS333 billion recorded in January, according to the Bank of Ghana's latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data.

The number of transactions also declined to 698 million in February, compared to 726 million the previous month. This follows a peak of 745 million transactions in December 2024.

However, industry analysts remain optimistic, citing the recent cancellation of the 1% electronic money levy on mobile money transactions as a potential catalyst for growth. Year-on-year figures also show a significant increase in transactions, rising from 609 million in February 2024 to 698 million in February 2025.

The development has sparked interest in the sector, with many awaiting the impact of the levy cancellation on mobile money transactions in the coming months.
