Mahama Visits Black Stars Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers Against Chad and Madagascar

Accra, Ghana - 19 March, 2025 - In a show of support for the national team, President John Dramani Mahama paid a surprise visit to the Black Stars at their training session in Accra today.

The President's visit, which came ahead of the team's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, aimed to boost morale and motivation among the players.

The President's visit, accompanied by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams and Ghana Football Association(GFA) president Kurt Okraku, aimed to rejuvenate the team's spirits following recent disappointments, including their failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 20 years.

President Mahama delivered a motivational speech, assuring the players and technical staff of the nation's full support.

Meanwhile, Ghana FA president Kurt Okraku took to social media to express gratitude for the President's visit, highlighting its significance in uplifting the team's morale.

''This evening, I had the special honour of welcoming His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic, to the Accra Sports Stadium, where he paid a surprise visit to the Black Stars as they continue their preparations for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.  

   "President Mahama offered words of motivation and assured the players and technical staff of the full support of the nation ahead of the crucial double header. "I would like to take this opportunity once again express my deepest appreciation to the President for taking time out of his busy schedule to uplift the morale of the players, technical staff, and Ghanaians as a whole.  

"I was joined by Chairman of the Black Stars management Committee, Dr Randy Abbey, Vice-chairman Stephen Appiah and members Moses Armah and Samuel Aboabire.''

The Black Stars will face Chad on Friday, marking the beginning of their World Cup qualification campaign. With President Mahama's visit, the team is poised to make a strong comeback.
