Mahama Takes the Global Stage: Champions Women's Rights in Beijing
China – October 11,2025 - In a significant move to amplify Ghana's commitment to women's empowerment, President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama have touched down in Beijing, China, for a high-level Global Leaders' Meeting on Women.
This year, the world commemorates two significant milestones: the 80th anniversary of the United Nations' founding and the 30th anniversary of the landmark Fourth World Conference on Women, which took place in Beijing.
Co-hosted by President Xi Jinping and UN Women, this pivotal gathering scheduled for October 13-14, brings together influential world leaders to fast-track the realization of the Beijing Declaration's visionary goals adopted at the Fourth World Conference on Women in 1995.
The President will hold crucial discussions with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to explore opportunities for cooperation and collaboration between Ghana and China. President Mahama will also host a Presidential Investment Forum, bringing together Ghanaian businesses, Chinese counterparts, and investors to explore opportunities in Ghana. The forum aims to promote investment and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in areas such as trade, agriculture, and infrastructure development.
The President's delegation includes key ministers and officials, such as Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, and Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko.
The visit aims to champion women's empowerment and gender equality, strengthen Sino-Ghanaian ties and investment, promote trade and economic cooperation between Ghana and China, and explore opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The visit marks a significant milestone in Ghana's efforts to strengthen its relations with China and promote economic cooperation. The Global Leaders' Meeting on Women provides a platform for President Mahama to share Ghana's experiences and perspectives on women's empowerment and gender equality, while also learning from other world leaders.
