Mahama Revokes Appointments of MMDCEs

Accra, Ghana - 08 Jan, 2025 - Ghana's President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs), effective immediately.

This decision, outlined in a letter signed by Executive Secretary to the President Calistus Mahama, also applies to Assembly Members appointed under the relevant provisions of the Local Governance Act.

According to the letter, the revocation of appointments is in accordance with the powers vested in President Mahama under the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940)

In the interim, Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs have been directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until permanent appointments are made. This move is seen as a significant shake-up in local government administration, with analysts expecting further changes in the coming weeks.
