Mahama Nominates Dr. Zakari Mumuni as Bank of Ghana's First Deputy Governor

Accra, Ghana - 24 Feb, 2025 - President John Mahama has put forth Dr. Zakari Mumuni's name for the position of First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.

The nomination comes as Dr. Maxwell Opoku-Afari prepares to exit his role, having begun his leave on February 5, 2025. The Council of State's approval is required for Dr. Mumuni's appointment to be finalized.

Dr. Mumuni boasts an extensive background in central banking, macroeconomic policy analysis, and financial market development, spanning over two decades. His expertise is expected to be instrumental in shaping Ghana's monetary policy.

Collaborating closely with Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Johnson Asiama, Dr. Mumuni will tackle pressing economic challenges, such as inflation control, exchange rate stability, and financial sector reforms.
