Mahama Directs GES to Promote Eligible Deputy Directors

Accra, Ghana - 25 April, 2025 - Ghana's Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a major breakthrough for junior-ranked teachers, as President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate promotion of all eligible deputy directors of education.
This move comes just days before the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) was set to embark on a strike over delayed promotions.
The President's directive, announced by Minister Iddrisu at the launch of a sanitary pad distribution initiative for schoolgirls on Thursday, April 24, means that deputy directors will be granted promotions regardless of the availability of office spaces or formal postings. This decision is expected to boost the morale of teachers and address long-standing concerns about career progression.
“One of your major concerns, the president raised to me, is that in his campaign rounds, many of you who are deputy directors of education struggle to move the ladder above you to become directors because of the unavailability of office spaces.
The move is part of President Mahama's broader efforts to improve the education sector and promote gender equality.
