Local Gov't Service Workers' Union Refuses to Join CLOGSAG Strike

Accra, Ghana - 22 Feb. 2025 - Ghana's Local Government Service Workers' Union (LGSWU) has broken ranks with the Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG), refusing to join a nationwide strike.
The strike, which started on February 20, 2025, was called by CLOGSAG to protest a contentious appointment.
At issue is the selection of Samuel Adom Botchway as Registrar of the Births and Deaths Registry, a move CLOGSAG claims was driven by politics.
However, the LGSWU in a statement has opted out of the strike, citing ongoing litigation related to the appointment. Union leaders have instructed members to report to work as usual.
“For these reasons and upon further consultations by the National Management Committee with all the regional councils, the Local Government Service Workers’ Union has taken a unanimous decision not to join the strike action,'' portions of the LGSWU statement read.
